Augmented with worked examples, the text considers all aspects of atmospheric physics except dynamics, including moist thermodynamics, cloud microphysics, atmospheric radiation and remote sensing, and will be an invaluable resource for students and researchers. The thermodynamics of the atmosphere is the subject of severai chapters in most textbooks on dynamic meteorology, but there is no work in English to give the subject a specific and more extensive treatment. In writing the present textbook, we have tried to fiII this rather remarkable gap in the literature related to atmospheric sciences.

Written by leading scientists in the field, Thermodynamics of Atmospheres and Oceans incorporates all the relevant information from the varying fields of dynamics meteorology, atmospheric physics and cloud physics, into a comprehensive, self-contained guide ideal for students and researchers of atmospheric thermodynamics. At the moment, courses Author: Judith A. Curry.   This textbook is written for meteorology majors who require an initial introduction to the physical properties of the atmosphere and to the essential principles and real-world applications of atmospheric thermodynamics. These topics are supplemented by a sampling of techniques and technologies related to atmospheric measurements and observations/5.

Atmospheric Thermodynamics book. Read reviews from world’s largest community for readers. This comprehensive text is based on the authors' course notes, /5. Atmospheric Thermodynamics 53 Thermodynamic of dry air A system is open if it can exchange matter with its surroundings, closed otherwise. In atmospheric thermodynamics, the concept of air parcel is often used. It is a good approximation to consider the air parcel as a closed system, since significant mass exchanges.

It is a nice starting book for beginners to skim throughout Atmospheric Thermodynamics and learn fundamentals. Bohren kindly explained concepts in details, and this book includes a lot of interesting problems. Some parts seem to be a bit lengthy, but still It reads very well.

Definitely a recommendable book/5(12). In the physical sciences, atmospheric thermodynamics is the study of heat and energy transformations in the earth’s atmospheric system. Following the fundamental laws of classical thermodynamics, atmospheric thermodynamics studies such phenomenon as properties of moist air, formation of clouds, atmospheric convection, boundary layer meteorology, and vertical stabilities in the atmosphere.

Our aim has been to provide students of meteorology with. This textbook presents a uniquely integrated approach in linking both physics and chemistry to the study of atmospheric thermodynamics.

The book explains the classical laws of thermodynamics, focuses on various fluid systems, and, recognising the increasing importance of chemistry in the meteorological and climate sciences, devotes a chapter to chemical thermodynamics which includes an Cited by: 8.

1 Molecular Thermodynamics Perhaps the most basic equation in atmospheric thermodynamics is the ideal gas law p=rRT where p is pressure, r is the air density, T is temperature, and R is the gas constant for dry air. The book starts by covering the basics of thermodynamics and its applications in atmospheric science.

The later chapters describe major applications, specific to more specialized areas of atmospheric physics, including vertical structure and. 20 hours ago  An Introduction to Atmospheric Thermodynamics by Anastasios A.
